Bugatti Announces 268mph Veyron Super Sport
Confirming earlier rumors, Bugatti has announced a new Veyron Super Sport model. Proving that the new model has the performance chops to uphold the Veyron nameplate, the Super Sport has already claimed the landspeed world record. Improving upon the Veyron’s already impressive 1,001 horsepower, Bugatti engineers have fitted the Super Sport model’s 8.0L sixteen-cylinder engine with larger turbochargers and intercoolers, resulting in a massive 1,200 horsepower and 1,106 lb-ft or torque. To cope with that added power, the Super Sport features a revised chassis and improved suspension, allowing for lateral acceleration up to 1.4 G. But the real story of the Super Sport is its incredible top speed. Using Volkswagen’s 13-miles Ehra-Lessien test track, Bugatti test driver Pierre-Henri Raphanel was able to pilot the Veyron Super Sport to a landspeed record-setting top speed of 267.91mph. That mark was reached by averaging the Super Sport’s two test runs, the first topping out at 265.96mph and the second at 269.86mph. The Guinness Book of Records was on hand to verify the record.

Doomsday Ark to be Housed on the Moon
If the human species should be destroyed on Earth, our future may reside on the Moon if plans.being drawn up for a “Doomsday ark” on the moon by the European Space Agency are carried through. The Ark will contain the essentials of life and human civilization, to be activated in the event of earth being devastated by a giant asteroid or nuclear war. The construction of a lunar information bank, discussed at a conference in Strasbourg last month, would provide survivors on Earth with a remote-access toolkit to rebuild the human race. A basic version of the ark would contain hard discs holding information such as DNA sequences and instructions for metal smelting or planting crops. It would be buried in a vault just under the lunar surface and transmitters would send the data to heavily protected receivers on earth. if no receivers survived, the ark would continue transmitting the information until new ones could be built. The vault could later be extended to include natural material including microbes, animal embryos and plant seeds and even cultural relics such as surplus items from museum stores.

Continental Shaft: The Best Cars You Can't Buy in the States
If the car industry's recent tumult has any upside, it's that after years of crowding dealerships with some… less than inspired domestic designs, automakers are finally reaching across borders to stay afloat in a keen, competitive market: Ford is importing models from its excellent European division, and Fiat's acquisition of Chrysler means we'll be seeing the first Stateside examples of the brand in almost thirty years. Still, that doesn't mean we'll get everything we really want. Here, we break down the best examples of the foreign cars that won't be arriving on our shores. Read it and weep.

Scuba Dooby Doo
A Russian diving team has a brand new recruit - in the form of a miniature Dachshund. The maritime mutt is seen here taking the plunge with his owner in a specially-built wet suit and breathing mask. Boniface was kitted out with the suit by his owner Sergei Gorbunov, who is a professional diver. Gorbunov claims that whenever he went diving without Boniface in the past, the dog would become upset, so he decided to solve the problem by taking him too. A South Korean company agreed to make the purpose-built suit and now the intrepid divers are set to spend hours under the waves near Vladivostok, Russia. Complete with oxygen tank and plexi-glass mask, Boniface has so far worn the suit in a series of trials in deep water pools - with a little encouragement in the form of sausages.
