Paula LaBaredasHere’s that Paula Baredas chick I posted pictures of last week, giving us another good look at that tight little body of hers. I like it, I still don’t know who the hell she is, but I like it. I mentioned last time that her name sounded Spanish for ‘The Bare Ass’, unfortunately we’ve yet to see her living up to that name. Don’t get me wrong, these are a good start, but this just isn’t going to cut it for much longer, it’s time to step up your game. It’s summer time, where are the bikini pictures? |
Save 5 PointzDamn, even legal graffiti is being endangered! The amazing 5 Pointz warehouse in Long Island City is being threatened with possible demolition in favor of a high-rise residential tower and luxury shopping mall complex. Campaigns are under away to stop the destruction of this legendary “graffiti mecca” — sign the online petition and like the Save 5 Pointz Facebook page! Click the images below to see the beautiful and inspiring work that New York City — and the world! — is in danger of losing to “progress". |
Gemma Merna and Jorgie Porter on a Boat In BikinisWe already have enjoyed some Gemma Merna this week with a comprehensive afternoon pick-me-up, but, really, can you ever get enough of Ms. Merna? Apparently Merna stars in a teen soap called “Hollyoaks.” News to us. It appears that she also likes to hang out on boats, in a bikini, with her co-star Jorgie Porter. You and us both, Ms. Merna. Thankfully, some patriotic individual took photos of Ms. Merna and Ms. Porter chillaxin’ in skimpy outfits. |
Marked Men: Russian Prison TattoosDanzig Baldayev worked in a Leningrad prison for 33 years and managed to get an insight into the criminal world that even the KGB took interest in his work. During his time an an ethnographer, he illustrated enough criminal tattoos to fill three books. The volumes entitled Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopaedia contained accompanying photographs from Sergei Vasiliev. In prisons the world over, tattoos are a form of “language”, often telling other inmates the violent history of the wearer, and it was no different in Russian prisons. The tattoos that Baldayev and Vasiliev encountered were cloaked in hidden meanings and very smybolic to the wearer, a curriculum vitae if you will. These tattoos had to be earned the hard way, and a criminal without a tattoo had no status in prison, while anyone bearing a tattoo that they didn’t work for had it forcibly removed. |

The Fred Astaire 1955 Ferrari 750 MonzaJust added to RM Auctions‘ Monterey sale during the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 19–20: This race-winning 1955 Ferrari 750 Monza Scaglietti Spider, which played a starring role in the 1959 apocalyptic thriller On the Beach starring Fred Astaire, Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner. In the movie, Astaire’s first non-singing and dancing flick, he drives it in the role of Dr. Julian Osborne, a scientist who buys the Ferrari to compete in the world’s very last Grand Prix. One of only 35 built and originally fitted with a snakeskin interior, though now refinished in understated black leather, it’s expected to fetch up to $3.25 million in the stunning sale. Prior to its Hollywood career it enjoyed an extremely successful racing campaign at the hands of famed drivers including Phil Hill. Truly the Fred Astaire of Ferraris... |
Lockheed Martin Unveils First Orion SpacecraftThe funding to send astronauts to the moon on NASA's new Orion space capsule may have been axed, but it's good for lots of other stuff, from ISS transport flights to deep-space adventures. Lockheed Martin has just unveiled the very first Orion spaceship, along with a fancy new simulation center to test it out in. Orion looks a lot like Apollo-era capsules, but it's much bigger, designed to seat four to six astronauts, and takes advantage of decades of technological advances. Inside, it's got a glass cockpit based on the one in the Boeing 787, and "improved waste-management facilities" (yay!). |
2011 Lotus Evora S ReviewThe single most important fact about the new Lotus Evora S isn't its supercharged V6 engine or its improved suspension. No, it's the price. Starting at $76,000 the Evora S may seem like an unreasonable price hike of $12,000 over the standard Evora, but that's only because Lotus has dropped the MSRP of the base car by $8,000 since it first hit our shores. For comparison's sake, take the cost of the car's most direct competitor, the Porsche 911 Carrera. It starts at $79,000. Both cars make an identical 345-hp, and if stop-light drag racing sits high on your list of qualities a sports car should have then the Evora S edges out the 911 with its lower curb weight, translating to a 4.3 second 0-60 mph time – roughly half a second faster than the 911. The Carrera S will deliver similar straight-line performance, but that model edges north of the 90K mark. |
