Minka Kelly Needs a Pat-Down, I Need OxygenAt some point, there's going to be enough of a groundswell from the vox populi to dismantle the system of rigorous TSA pat-downs at the airport of unsuspecting female travelers (okay, some guys get pissed too about this, but, let's face it, a dude complaining about a sack-grab generally falls on deaf ears, or so Father Risputelli cautioned me repeatedly back in the rectory during grade school). But, before this hideously hands-on practice is discontinued, I sure do hope LAX accepts my employment application and I pray that the amazingly hot Minka Kelly comes walking through my jurisdiction. The happy snapping of my gloves will be heard 'round the world as I powder up my ten-fingered inspection unit for a hard-target search of the super-sexy Charlie's Angels actress. |
Isa Leshko: Elderly AnimalsPhotographer Isa Leshko is traveling to sanctuaries across the country to photograph animals that are elderly or at the end stage of their lives. “I began the series as a means of exploring my feelings about my mother’s decline due to Alzheimer’s Disease,” she says. “As I’ve worked on this project, though, I’ve come to realize that these images are a testament to survival and endurance. And they raise questions about what it means to be elderly.” |
Selena Gomez is in a Bikini, Then Nakedhat headline is a blatant lie, by the way, but it really helps my google placement when I have the words “selena gomez” and “bikini” and “naked” in a headline. If it’s any consolation she did wear a little bikini at her hotel pool in Orlando yesterday, and then untied the straps when she laid on her stomach. So did I use photoshop to crop the pictures and zoom in on her ass and cleavage with serial killer like precision? I think we both know the answer to that. |
Avian Architecture – the Precarious Nests of the StorkStorks make their nests high. To us they look remarkably precarious structures, not exactly a desirable residence – the ‘des res’ of your dreams. The stork, however, thrives at height most of us would avoid like the plague. Take a look at some amazing nests of the stork. Although many Europeans encourage storks to nest on the roof of their home – it is supposed to increase the fecundity of the householders – many would gasp at the inherent danger that lies in building one’s home on top of a deadly current of electricity. In Denmark, however, the stork is not a welcome guest and so this would be considered appropriate alternative housing. The Danish believe that if a stork builds a nest on top of your house then someone who lives there will die before the year ends. |

Boozer EV Goes 1,013 Miles on a ChargeRange is the name of the game for electric vehicles, and researchers in Germany are the new champs. Electro-gearheads at the University of Applied Sciences in Offenburg, in collaboration with other academic groups, sent the Schlucksprecht E (“heavy drinker” or “boozer”) around a track for a total of 1013.77 miles on a single charge. The run took 36 hours and 12 minutes, with four drivers taking the wheel for two-hour shifts. The drive easily eclipsed the previous record of 623.3 miles set by the Japan Electric Vehicle Club. The team focused much of its attention on maximizing aerodynamics and cutting weight. The funky single-seater is Spartan to say the least. It’s got two hub-mounted motors, and it’s as slow as it is low. It completed the run at an average of 45 kilometers per hour, according to Oekonews.com, which first reported the results of last weekend’s run. That’s a blistering 28 mph. |
Survey Finds One-Third of Americans More Willing to Give Up Sex Than Their Mobile PhonesResults of a recent national survey* commissioned by TeleNav, Inc. (NASDAQ: TNAV) indicate that Americans are willing to give up some of life's greatest pleasures in order to hang on to their mobile phones. Not surprisingly, smartphone users were more attached to their devices than were feature phone users, with iPhone users leading the pack. In fact, iPhone users were more likely than their Android or BlackBerry counterparts to spend a week without their significant other, exercise or shoes—rather than go a week without their phone. While 22 percent of all respondents said they would rather give up their toothbrush than their phone for a week, this number jumped to a whopping 40 percent among iPhone users. Halitosis and other priority quirks aside, 83 percent of iPhone users thought other iPhone users would make the best romantic partners. |
2011 Ferrari 599-VX by VorsteinerGerman tuning company, Vorsteiner, has earned quite a reputation for being one of the foremost tuners of Bentley, Mercedes, Porsche, and BMW models. However, on that list, and the many other brands it has worked on, there’s a conspicuous absence of Italian cars. Until now. For the first time in the company’s illustrious history, Vorsteiner is working on a supercar from Italy, one that calls itself the Ferrari 599. The first dalliance between the German tuning firm and the Italian automaker has turned into a shining example of what the former is entirely capable of with just about any vehicle it customizes. The final product is called the 599-VX, which takes elements from the 599 GTB Fiorano and combines it with characteristics derived from the 599 GTO and the 599 XX. |
Russia Shows Off New T-50 Stealth Jet, F-22s Look NervousYesterday, Russia's stealthy new fifth-generation jet fighter, the Sukhoi T-50, made its public debut at an air show near Moscow. The T-50 is billed as being more agile than the F-22, which is slightly worrisome for America's new fighters. Or, it would be worrisome, if every last F-22 hadn't been grounded since May due to mechanical problems. USA! The T-50 is also known as the PAK FA, which stands for "Prospective Airborne Complex of Frontline Aviation." Despite the ugliness of this acronym, the aircraft itself is very advanced. It's noticeably similar in construction to the F-22, relying heavily on composites for stealth, although it does sacrifice a little bit of this sneakiness for extra maneuverability. There's also some mention of a kind of "artificial intellect" in the PAK FA's radar system that does something unspecified, but I'm thinking it's like a Clint Eastwood in Firefox type of thing. |
