CELEBRITIES & MODELS PHOTOGRAPHY & EYE CANDY

Katy Perry Seems so Normal

Katy Perry is in the middle of her California Dreams tour, but on Monday she took her dancers, crew and opening artist Natalia Kills to Six Flags Great America outside Chicago to ride roller coasters. In other words this chick has a lot to learn about being famous. The only way Jennifer Lopez would put someone who worked for her on a roller coaster is if the track wasn’t finished.

A Second Before The Geyser Erupts

This picture is taken right before the geyser erupts. Strokkur (Icelandic for "churn") is one of Iceland's most famous geysirs, erupting regularly every 4-8 minutes. Strokkur has a long history of activity, beginning in 1789, after an earthquake unblocked the plumbing system of the geyser. It continued to erupt until 1896, when another earthquake blocked the conduit of the geyser. Then in 1963, locals cleaned out the blocked conduit and the geyser has been regularly erupting ever since.

Micaela Schaefer’s Awesome Tight Bikini Body

Does anyone have any clue who this Micaela Schaefer hottie is? Because I want to make sweet hump to her for at least thirteen minutes. Here she is showing off her amazing body in some bikini shots on the beach somewhere. Obviously they’re completely staged, but I’m not going to complain. What kind of hottie walks around alone half naked like this? There’s got to be a confused rich old dude walking around somewhere with pocket full of boner pills. Lucky bastard.

The Silliest Military Uniforms Ever

Last season's collection of combat outfits merely scratched the surface of peculiar, quirky or downright silly ensembles. So we've hunted down the wackiest of the bunch. Whether it's protection of the royal family or Vatican City, combating enemies of the future or local troublemakers, here are some of the oddest military get-ups you may ever see.

PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES TECHNOLOGY & OTHER NEAT STUFF

Chevrolet’s Mouse That Roared

Back in 1954, when Bill Haley And His Comets were hitting their stride and “jet set” referred to people who actually flew places, General Motors introduced the Chevrolet small block V8 engine. A marvel of compact design, technical innovation and (relative) fuel efficiency, it didn’t take long for the potent powerplant to end up in everything from milk trucks to race cars. The little engine that could was heralded with the usual corporate fanfare, but few expected it to be the unmitigated success it became. It transformed Chevrolet, helped drive America’s love affair with performance and became one of the 10 best engines of the 20th century. Fifty-six years later, GM says Chevrolet is about the crank out its 100 millionth small block Chevrolet engine.

Car-to-Car Communication System to Get a Massive Road Test

Technology that would allow cars to talk to each other—to help prevent accidents and improve traffic flow—is about to get a real-world road test following new funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Many high-end cars already come with sensors capable of spotting a vehicle in a driver's blind spot, or warning that the car is drifting out of lane. However, these technologies, which use radar, laser, or video sensors, have a limited view. Car-to-car communications could provide even more sophisticated earlier warnings—for example, when a car several vehicles ahead brakes suddenly. Last month, the DOT awarded $14.9 million to the University of Michigan's Transportation Research Institute to test the technology, known as vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication. The system to be tested relies on dedicated short-range radio communication to allow cars to signal one another and receive messages from traffic equipment.

BMW Will Replace LED Headlights with Freaking Lasers

A new report from Munich reveals that, while Audi was busy trying to shove 300 LEDs into the snout of an A7, BMW's been working on the real future: laser headlights. My cat is going to flip out. Lasers offer myriad improvements over the stock LED bulbs being used in modern luxury cars: they use less energy, they're brighter, smaller and can be directed at a smaller area. Being brighter (170 lumens compared to about 100 lumens for LED) and more efficient is an obvious advantage, and being smaller means designers can go insane and create those impossibly thin lights we see on concepts but never see in real life, although BMW denies this is their main purpose.

Futuristic Tornado-Proof Home Sinks Into the Ground at the First Sign of a Twister

10 Design is basing their hopes on kinetic architecture and technological innovations to turn this futuristic dream into a reality. The tornado-proof house coalesces by taking inspiration from a large underground cavern, a flower emerging from the ground and a turtle with a survival mentality. A pod-like cylindrical living space cantilevers off a hydraulic tower foundation that emerges from underground. Down in the cavern, other domestic support areas, utilities and storage remain buried, while the home itself enjoys the open air, views, breezes and daylight. Solar cells on the exterior rotate and flex to maximize solar power generation, while the skin itself is composed of a translucent insulation sandwiched between two layers of Kevlar. This high performance exterior provides maximum insulation, a weather tight barrier, super strong protection and a translucent skin to let light diffuse in. 10 Design is also exploring photocatalytic coatings and carbon nanotubes on the skin to absorb toxins, pollutants and CO2, which in turn would be used to power the hydraulics.
