Smile For The Camera... But Don't Eat It

It's the toothy grin that nightmares are made of. But despite staring into the jaws of death, this diver still had the presence of mind to take a picture. This amazing image from photographer Don Carpenter show him fending off a great white shark, pushing its snout, then putting his hand in its mouth. More astonishing photos, taken from a nearby cage, show how powerful these killers are as the 15ft, one-and-a-half ton shark nudges. The shots were taken off Guadeloupe Island, Mexico by Mr Carpenter, who spent two days diving with the female Great White. Due to local regulations, he was not allowed to scatter fish guts, known as 'chumming', or put decoys in the water to attract the predators. The group of divers were in the cages 30 feet down when the great white approached, first checking out Don's cage, where she got snapped the close-up. Great whites often use their mouths and their incredibly sensitive snouts to explore unfamiliar objects. Their reputation as ferocious predators is well-earned, yet they are not (as was once believed) indiscriminate 'eating machines'. They are ambush hunters, taking prey by surprise from below.

Adrianne Curry Is Very Flexible

Here are a few pictures of Adrianne Curry that she posted on Twitter, and yes that’s her putting her leg behind her head. It’s pretty hot and giving me some naughty ideas like going to the store to buy pretzels. What? That’s naughty, they’re very salty and salt is bad for you. Anyhow, I like this chick, she seems like she’d be fun in the sack. The picture of her from behind is a little creepy, it kinda looks like me when I was fifteen. Ah the good old days. Enjoy.

Photo Tour of The Solar System

The Solar System consists of the Sun and those celestial objects bound to it by gravity, all of which formed from the collapse of a giant molecular cloud approximately 4.6 billion years ago. Of the retinue of objects that orbit the Sun, most of the mass is contained within eight relatively solitary planets whose orbits are almost circular and lie within a nearly-flat disc called the ecliptic plane. The four smaller inner planets, Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, also called the terrestrial planets, are primarily composed of rock and metal. The four outer planets, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, also called the gas giants, are composed largely of hydrogen and helium and are far more massive than the terrestrials.

Elmar Project, The Weirdest Concept Displayed At Geneva

Projects from Students are rocking in Geneva Motor show. You remember that Gazal-1 concept from King Saud University students, and the other revolutionary concept is Elmar Project. For the Elmar is powered by four advanced Radfelgenmotoren – 4 Electric synchronous motors, each with 7.5 kW, the optimum efficiency and offer an unparalleled torque. This vehicle with lithium ion batteries is also equipped with newly developed LED light and has no standard body but a spider like tubes of carbon fiber frame beneath a cockpit. Elmar has a seating capacity for two and has cameras instead of mirrors to provide a flexible and elegant orientation in the transport, especially when parking.

Mach 6 Cruise Missile, Ready for Prime Time?

This spring, the Air Force was preparing for a groundbreaking test of the X-51 WaveRider, a hypersonic cruise missile that would reach speeds of up to Mach 6. But it looks like the WaveRider’s debut flight will have to wait while some technical issues are addressed. Boeing spokeswoman Christina Kelly confirmed to Danger Room that the test would have to be rescheduled. “We don’t have a firm date,” she said. “It’s going to happen, but it’s just going move to the right.” The X-51 program is a collaboration between Boeing Phantom Works and engine maker Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne to develop a new class of cruise missile that can reach targets much, much faster than current designs. As this Air Force video explains, the X-51 employs scramjet propulsion: It collects air from the atmosphere to mix and burn with its fuel, but unlike a jet, it doesn’t rely on a turbine to do the compression work. Hypersonic flight was once considered too extreme for an air-breathing vehicle to handle in a controlled way. But as Danger Room’s Noah Schachtman explained in Popular Mechanics a few years back, the X-51’s unique shape uses the shockwaves created by hypersonic flight to create lift, and compress the air to mix with its fuel.

2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition Celebrates 50 Years Since First Le Mans Race

To celebrate 50 years since a Corvette first competed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Chevy has just announce the new 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition with brake and suspension upgrades, as well as a lighter overall weight thanks to plenty of carbon fiber. The changes, says Chief Corvette Engineer Tadge Juechter, are enough to shave up to 3.0 seconds per lap off a standard Z06 on a track like Laguna Seca. “For track use, the Z06 Carbon is the best balanced Corvette yet. It combines the lightweight and naturally-aspirated Z06 engine with the road-holding and braking of the ZR1,” he comments. Upgrades include Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, straight from the ZR1, as well as 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, coated in Michelin PS2 tires. Upgraded engine and transmissions coolers are part of the package, as is a Magnetic Selective Ride Control system. And let’s not forget a special carbon fiber hood, as well as a carbon fiber engine cover, carbon fiber rocker panels and front splitter. There’s even a ZR1-inspired rear spoiler, plus black headlights and mirrors.

World's First Commercially Available Jetpack Goes On Sale

Ever since the glory days of the Fall Guy in the 1980s any self-respecting gadget geek has craved a workable jetpack. The new Martin Jetpack is priced at $86,000 (£57,675) and is the world's first commercially available personal flying machine. This beast of a machine will allow you a full 30 minutes of flight time, so just be careful you are not too high when you are reaching that 28-minute point in your flight across from the top of London's Centrepoint to the top of the BT Tower. The machine's rotors are built from a carbon / Kevlar composite and powered by a 200hp two-liter V4 two-stroke petrol engine. Martin Aircraft is based in New Zealand, so you may also have to take a trip over there to pick up your new wonder-toy. Either that, or pay a couple of extra grand for the shipping costs.
