2010 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog RaceReigning three-time champion Lance Mackey and four-time champion Jeff King are turning the 2010 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race into their own two-man contest. Mackey reached Shaktoolik, the second stop on the run up the western coast of Alaska, at 4:08 p.m. Alaska Daylight Time. King, trying to match Rick Swenson's record of five victories in the 1,100-mile race, reached the village 37 minutes later. Their next leg will be offshore across Norton Sound, where winds can blow up whiteout conditions in ground storms without a flake of new snow falling. The temperature Sunday morning reached 34 below zero. Only Mackey's eyes were visible under the hood of his thick white parka. A neck gaiter covered his most and mouth and a headlamp shone from his forehead. Like their driver, Mackey's dogs were protected against the cold, sporting royal blue coats and booties to protect their feet. |
Vida Guerra’s Cleavage ImpressesI don’t believe that Vida Guerra does anything, other than maybe help thousands of teenage boys go blind, but I like the way she does it. Here she is at some event showing off more than a little cleavage. I’m pretty sure I could stick a book in between those things and it wouldn’t move. I can think a few more interesting things to stick in there, but I don’t want to seem crass. Besides, I’m just enjoying the show. |
Postcards from a Violent CityEl Paso and Juárez used to operate as one community. But Juárez’s violence is causing anguish among El Paso residents. The car where four teenagers were shot in Juárez last December, above, had at least 39 bullet marks. |

World’s Most Technologically Advanced Sub Sets SailBritain now boasts to possess the world’s best and high tech submarine: Astute that sets on trials off the coast of Scotland. This submarine comes out after the herculean task and hi-tech engineering of more than 15 years that were marked with overspends and delays. Nevertheless, what an astonishing creation finally it comes out to be. Astute can unstoppably lurk in the sea for her entire 25-year lifespan, generates her own oxygen and fresh water from the surrounding sea, never has to refuel and the only reason for it to come on petrol after 90 days is to fill the food stock and help preserve the sanity of the crew. What makes Astute world’s most technologically advanced submarine are the following. |
